Coraline
It’s moments like this where I really don’t know what to do. On one hand, I have my opinion of the film, which is “go nowhere near it”. I walked out ofCoraline and said it was one of the worst movies I’d seen in a while and is still probably my worst of the year. On the other hand, is pretty much every other person in the world, who love it. What we all agree on is that the movie is dark, weird, and done in stop-motion. It worked for them, but not for me. FINAL VERDICT: I say “no”, the world says “yes”.
Watchmen
When this movie first came out, I declined to review it because I didn’t see the point. I am so in love with the graphic novel on which the movie is based that seeing anything involving the characters in motion would be amazing. I watch a lot of movies through biased eyes, but none more so than Watchmen. I loved it, as did most fans I’ve talked to, but I didn’t think it was a movie for mainstream audiences. Color me surprised when most people of my generation who saw it and hadn’t read the book really enjoyed it. They were more entertained by the visuals and the fight scenes, rather than the story and the characters, but regardless, they enjoyed it. FINAL VERDICT: The director’s cut is a must buy for any fan of the book, and it is worth a rental for anyone who wants to see a stylistically impressive movie.
