DVD Rundown: A REC in Connecticut

The Haunting in Connecticut

Look, it’s another horror film that I thought had potential only to have it slap me in the face and steal my money. I wasn’t expecting a great movie, but there was something so resounding to me about that shot in the trailer of Kyle Gallner with words carved into his entire body. Even that scene wasn’t as powerful in the context of the movie (maybe because i was bored out of my mind by that point) and every other attempt at horror is so predictable it’s not scary. Writing about all these garbage horror movies week after week only makes me appreciate what Raimi was able to do with Drag Me To Hell. FINAL VERDICT: Skip it. If you really need a horror fix, there’s thousands of better films out there.

[REC]

Okay, I haven’t actually seen this one, but I have seen the American remake, Quarantine, and I thought it was pretty awesome. I’m a huge fan of zombie films and both of these films approach it in an original way. I’ve heard that [REC] is the superior film, so I’ve already added it to my Netflix queue, but I’m worried that it’s not going to have the same effect since I already know where the movie ends up. FINAL VERDICT: Rent it. If you don’t like foreign films, rent Quarantine.
